Whether youre young or old, many people just arent comfortable announcing their age to the people they work with.If the thought of that question makes you break out into a sweat, what do you do?First of all, its not polite to ask, Gottsman said. Secondly, youre not obligated to answer.Fortunately, you can avoid the question without coming off as rude or aggressive. Crawford recommends responding with a smile and a brief, Id rather not say. Or, she said you can even keep things lighthearted and funny by saying something along the lines of, Ill never tell. 3. Be open about dietary restrictionsYou might think office birthday parties are uncomfortable enough to begin with. But, youll feel even more awkward when Susan from accounting is crying in the bathroom because she didnt know you had a nut allergy and she made pea nut butter cookies as a treat.As direct as it might feel, its more than copacetic to be open with your colleagues about any dietary restrictions you have - ideally, ahead of when your party arrives.Not only will that save you the embarrassment of needing to decline your own birthday cake, but, its also some handy trivia for your co-workers to know for any future potlucks or celebrations. Refreshing those boring office birthdaysWhile the free mid-day treats are a nice perk, there are still plenty of people who dread office celebrations - whether theyre the center of attention or not.Office birthday parties are equivalent to mandatory fun,Gottsmansaid. When there are several per week or month, it minimizes productivity and people often resent the disruption.These events will likely never be retired completely. However, there are a few things employers should consider to increase the chances of employees looking forward to these celebrations - rather than dreading them. 1. Do someth ing spontaneousYour whole team heads into the conference room at 3 p.m., sings the song, grabs a slice of cake, and then watches the guest of honor open a generic card with a $50 gift card inside. Its the same party for everybody.This cookie-cutter approach makes planning celebrations easy, and you assume that the sheer act of recognizing a milestone is enough to keep employees engaged and happy.But, as it turns out, this could be having the opposite effect.In his TED Talk, The Puzzle of Motivation, Dan Pink explains that expected rewards are far less effective than those that are unexpected. Basically, when an employee knows exactly what their birthday celebration will look like, it can actually be disheartening - which isnt the result youre aiming for.Even further, doing the exact same thing for everybody makes comparison far too easy. Colleagues can match up everything from the quality of the cake to the number of attendees - which can breed some hostility and hurt feelings.So, if you have the time and resources, consider doing something spontaneous or personal for peoples birthdays. Keeping people guessing will make the celebrations that much more fun for everybody. 2. Combine celebrationsEspecially on larger teams, it can be wise to combine the birthdays for a certain month into one larger scale celebration - which Crawford says takes the pressure off any one person and keeps the time spent on the events to a minimum.Doing this also gives the opportunity to do something grander and ultimately more enjoyable than a cake in the breakroom - such as planning an outing or happy hour for the whole team. Getting people out of the office for something fun will increase your chances of transforming birthday celebrations into an event that employees actually look forward to. 3. Consider the timingThink you can only celebrate employee birthdays with some cupcakes after lunch? Think again. The morning could actually be a more suitable time to light the candles. Meals In Air Force Basic Military Training And AfterMeals In Air Force Basic Military Training And AfterThe Air Force recently developed the Food Transformation Initiative (FTI) in buchung to enhance Air Force food service quality, variety and availability while maintaining constant learning and training program for Air Force cooks. The FTI is designed to enhance the menu, quality of food nutrition, and meet the servicemens expectations of what a good meal should be. On Air Force Bases, to include Basic Military Training (BMT), the food is served hot every meal when not in the field.Plus, you have a variety of other options such as a sandwich bar, a salad bar with many fruits and vegetables, and a dessert bar. This is a typical cafeteria style eating establishment, but with food that is considered rather good. You will also have a variety of drinks to choose from. Typical coffee, sodas, water, milk, chocolate milk, juices, and Gatorade type sports drinks. Breakfast Meals The most important meal of the day is also one of the best in the Air Force. For breakfast,there will be eggs toorder, scrambled eggs, hash browns, sausage/bacon, pancakes/french toast, juice, milk, cereals, coffee, and fruits. Lunch and Dinner For the other two meals of the day, there are two lines full hot bar meals, and a snack bar. A full meal will have the choice of two entrees (example, meatloaf or chicken).But you will also have daily options like hamburgers, grilled cheese, chicken ala king, veal, pizza you name it.There will be several different kinds ofvegetables each day as well. The snack bar line has hamburgers, hot dogs, fried chicken, sandwiches, chili, french fries, etc.There is also a salad bar, and desserts, including cakes and ice cream (if you T.I. says you can have sweets). The cafeteria-style serving line will begin with the hot food bar. If you do not like anything or need more food, you can also grab a few pieces of bread and make peanut butter and jelly (or ba nana) sandwiches at every meal too. However, once out of BMT, the food is considered so good, that many military members who eat at Air Force dining halls have to double down on their physical fitness in order to stay in fighting shape.It is easy to gain weight as you age, graduate challenging highly physical training programs, can access the dessert bar, and have more relaxed eating conditions. During BMT, the recruits cannot drink soda or access the dessert bar. Meals At Basic Military Training Many people tend to lose weight when at Basic Military Training as you will be on your feet all day movingand burning calories at a higher than normal rate. The added PBJ sandwich can add extra calories to your meal and help you maintain body weight as well as provide energy for the long day of basic training. At Basic Military Training, it is recommended to eat as much as you can and add calories where possible.Rice and extra breadis a good addition to nearly all meals and is available near daily for lunch and dinner.However, the biggest concerns for recruits is getting dehydrated especially in the hot summer months of training. You will be required to drink three glasses of fluid at every meal (Gatorade, water, juice) before you rise from the table. Even though the meals atAir Force Basic Military Trainingare really good, the mealtime environment is fairly stressful as it is a time when the Military Training Instructors (MTIs), who are Staff Sergeants and above, start communicating with you. Typically, if your uniform is squared away, the MTIs will keep searching for the next victim. However, sometimes, it is just your unlucky day and the good food you selected in the cafeteria line will be eaten is a less than the peaceful atmosphere. Expect to be asked military knowledge questions if you get stopped by MTIs in the chow hall. If you know your stuff, you will pass and survive another meal at BMT. For the first couple of weeks, your meal-time will be limited. You ll only have a few minutes from the time the last rolle in your flight gets to the table to finish your meal. Youll learn not to waste time, and eat fast. However, after the first couple of weeks, youll have more time for meals. During The BEASTtraining exercise, youll also get a chance to sample MREs (Meals, Ready to Eat).These are, however, not the preferred choice for any military member if given the option to eat in an Air Force Dining Facility.
